Meet Our Starkville Periodontist Dr. John Starr
Two years after opening his general dental practice in 1984, Dr. Starr realized he wanted to expand his knowledge and chose to study periodontics at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. After completing school in 1988, he opened Golden Triangle Periodontal Center.
He continues his education by staying up-to-date on the latest tools, techniques, and technology in dentistry and periodontics. Having grown up near Starkville, MS, he is passionate about his community and helping every patient achieve excellent oral health.

Our practice offers services that go beyond the scope of most dentists. Our periodontist and his team can provide general dental treatments as well as specialized treatments for periodontal disease. He also provides advanced tooth replacement through dental implants.
LANAP
Dr. Starr can perform the Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure to treat gum disease without invasive surgery. LANAP uses a laser to remove diseased gum tissue while leaving healthy tissue intact. This method is precise, minimally invasive, and effective at promoting the generation of new, healthy tissue.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed into the jaw to replace missing tooth roots and support replacement teeth. Unlike traditional bridges or dentures, dental implants stimulate the jawbone in a way that prevents jawbone atrophy. They act as a sturdy base for Dr. Starr to secure dental crowns, bridges, or dentures. Implant-supported restorations do not slip out of place, allowing them to look and function like your natural teeth.
Sedation Dentistry
Dental anxiety can prevent patients from receiving the oral care they need. Our Starkville practice offers sedation dentistry to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during any dental treatment. Our office provides three types of sedation dentistry: nitrous oxide, oral sedatives, and intravenous (IV) sedation. Dr. Starr will determine which option is best for you based on your level of anxiety and type of treatment you need. He can even combine options to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible during your care.
Gum Contouring
Excess gum tissue can make teeth look worn or underdeveloped, and make you feel self-conscious about the way you look. Gum contouring is a cosmetic procedure in which Dr. Starr can remove excess gum tissue and reshape the gum line to improve the appearance of your teeth and create a smile that is symmetrical and beautiful.
