Our Periodontal Services

At Golden Triangle Periodontal Center, periodontist John Starr provides specialized services beyond what most general dentists can offer when it comes to the supporting tissues of your smile. John W. Starr, Jr, DMD, and his team can address your dental needs at our Columbus and Starkville, MS, offices using state-of-the-art technology and the latest in periodontics:

Dental Implants

Tooth loss can have a serious impact on your oral and overall health. The roots of a tooth provide important stimulation to the bone tissue in your jaw. Without these signals, the bone tissue begins to recede. An implant acts as a replacement tooth root, providing the very best support to crowns, bridges, and dentures while helping you retain bone tissue. Since 1989, Dr. Starr has performed thousands of successful implant placement procedures.

Crown Lengthening

A filling or crown may require crown lengthening, or the removal of small amounts of gum tissue in order to expose more of the surface area of a tooth. In order for your dentist to access tooth decay or create a better foundation for the placement of a crown, we can carefully refine your gum tissue at our Columbus or Starkville offices using state-of-the-art dental lasers.

Sedation Dentistry

It is no secret that going to the dentist causes anxiety among many patients. Dr. Starr provides three types of sedation so that you can relax while receiving treatment. Nitrous oxide provides mild sedation, while oral and intravenous (IV) sedation can help patients achieve deeper relaxation. Sedation dentistry allows you to receive the treatment you need without any of the worries.

All-on-4 Dental Implants

Patients who have lost multiple teeth may not have the bone density needed to support traditional dental implants. For patients who have experienced some bone atrophy and need to replace a full dental arch, All-on-4 offers virtually the same benefits as traditional dental implants. Using four strategically placed posts to maximize contact with remaining bone tissue, a denture supported by All-on-4 can restore your smile without the need for a bone grafting procedure.

Dr. Starr Explains the Benefits of Implants

In this episode of On The Beat, Dr. John Starr talks about the differences between traditional dentures and implant-supported dentures.
"Dr. Starr and his staff were so kind! I am a nervous wreck when I have to have dental work. He and Hope made sure to make me feel as comfortable as possible. I would recommend them to anyone! ❤️" Katie Lang, 2022. Review on Facebook

Progressive Periodontal Disease Treatment LANAP

Periodontal disease is a common dental condition that can have serious consequences if left untreated. LANAP (Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure) is an alternative to traditional gum surgery that can restore soft tissue and bone without incisions or sutures. Advantages of LANAP periodontal disease treatment include:

Less Pain

Traditional gum disease treatments involve removing diseased tissue with a scalpel and placing stitches. LANAP precisely targets affected tissue and the germs that cause periodontal disease providing more comfortable treatment and virtually no discomfort following treatment.

Faster Recovery

Without any stitches to worry about, treating gum disease with LANAP requires less than a day of downtime. In most cases, patients can return to their daily routine immediately after the procedure. In comparison, traditional surgery can have a recovery period of two to four weeks.

Healthy Gums

Not only does LANAP effectively remove diseased tissue and the germs that cause gingivitis and periodontitis, but it stimulates the body's natural healing response. This added benefit encourages the renewal of both bone and soft tissue, leading to stronger gums and a healthier smile.

Guided Surgery Technology

While dental implant procedures have a high success rate of 95-98%, we want to maximize your chances of success as much as possible. That's why Dr. Starr uses guided surgery to increase the accuracy of implant placement.

Using our 3D scanner, we can create a model of your mouth and find the best spot to place your implants. Dr. Starr then uses custom stents to guide your implants into the proper position for consistent results.
